What is the AIMC Sangha Care Committee?

The Sangha Care Committee oversees efforts made to help all who come to AIMC feel welcomed, cared for, and part of the community.

There are three components which make up Sangha Care:

  1. Greeters: a team of volunteers who take turns at Thursday and Sunday meditation as well as special events giving tours to newcomers, and saying “welcome back” to familiar faces. (Ronnie Medina coordinator)
  2. Cards of Caring: We keep an assortment of cards for get well, birthdays, congratulations, etc–we just need a community member to describe the occasion and give a mailing address. (Julie Russell coordinator)
  3. Circle of Care Team: This group of AIMC volunteers respond to community members who require support and care. (Cynthia Copeland coordinator)

How does the Circle of Care work?

Any community member who attends events or volunteers at AIMC can request assistance. The first step is to ask, or have someone else make a request to the Coordinator. She will visit, and make an assessment of what is needed, then mobilize team volunteers as appropriate.

In the past, we have provided help to people who are post-op or having an acute medical or other challenge. Examples include: help with shopping, meal preparation/delivery, transportation to sangha or medical visits, walking the dog, dharma companionship if homebound. There are limitations to this service (partly based on the resources of the volunteers!), which are reviewed with the recipient at the start of a care circle–this service is not a replacement for each of us developing a helping network, but can be a bridge in some situations until a larger community of helpers/family can be mobilized.

Anyone with a tender heart and willingness! If you would like to provide transportation, you need to present a valid driver’s license and insurance. We are developing training to further cultivate your innate compassion, generosity, patience and kindness, and examine your own relationship to suffering, caring and service. If you would like to join us, please click here to fill out a form which will go to our Coordinator.
