Meditation: What, Why and How? with Valerie Roth 8:00 am – 10:00 am

November 2, 2019 @ 8:00 am 10:00 am

In the Buddhist tradition, Insight Meditation has been taught for 2600 years as part of a way of life leading to peace of mind and ease of heart, which extends into more harmonious relationships with ourselves, others, and the world.

We invite you to join us to practice together in a supportive and relaxed environment, which enhances the ability to learn and to concentrate. Whether you are new to meditation, or seeking to recommit to your practice, this class seeks to support you. All are welcome!

We will explore ways to calm and settle the mind, cultivating the conditions needed for insight to arise. We will pay attention to the values of kindness and generosity, inviting harmony within ourselves and with others. We will explore different kinds of meditation – sitting, standing, walking and reclining – and take time to discuss the practices as we learn together. And we will discuss ways to establish and support a consistent practice, which offers the maximum benefit.

No registration required. Come as often as you like!

This event is offered on the basis of dana, a practice of mutual generosity that has been alive since the time of the Buddha. There is no fee to participate. Donations to support the teacher and the sangha are gratefully accepted.

About the teacher:

VALERIE ROTH began study and practice of the Buddhist path 30 years ago while completing a Masters Degree in East West Psychology. She continued practice and study over the years of living and working as a Physical Therapist in Hawaii, California, New York, and on the Navajo Nation. She has studied and practiced with several different teachers, all in the Theravada lineage.

She completed training as a Community Dharma Leader at Spirit Rock Meditation Center in 2008 and was active in the Albuquerque Vipassana Sangha for several years. She taught classes for those new to practice and also served on many administrative committees. In recent years she has travelled in a small motorhome, and is pleased to be moving back to Albuquerque. Her focus is on practice in daily life, and offering service in support of what builds community.
