Daylong Retreat with DaeJa Napier – PATIENCE: the wisdom of slowing down

June 16 @ 10:00 am - 4:00 pm

Saturday, June 16, 10:00a – 4:30p  Daylong Retreat

In these times of great uncertainty patience is the wise response to feeling overwhelmed. The Buddha taught patience (khanti) as the antidote to restlessness, agitation and frustration – protecting the mind from getting carried away with anger and fear. The power of patience quiets anxiety inviting the heart into balance so we can choose to respond rather than react – while maintaining a calm engaged presence serving the greater good in each moment.

DaeJa Napier teaches Vipassana meditation with an emphasis on the cultivation of the four Brahma Viharas: loving kindness, compassion, appreciative joy and equanimity. She has been practicing and studying in various Buddhist traditions since 1974 and has been teaching since 1986. She continues to study with prominent Asian and Western teachers. DaeJa has dedicated her life to exploring the traditional pathways to awakening and their application in daily life. She is the founding and guiding teacher of the Brahma Vihara Foundation. The daylong retreat will offer reflections and instructions that focus on the role that patience plays in the cultivation of mindfulness and metta. The schedule will be held in Noble Silence and include include sitting and walking meditation. This will be offered in a manner that clearly relates to our formal practice as well as practical applications in everyday life.

This event is offered on the basis of dana, a practice of mutual generosity that has been alive since the time of the Buddha. Those offering the teachings rely on the donations of retreat participants to support their valuable work in this world. At each event there will be an opportunity to offer a dana to the teacher and the sangha. We also welcome donations to AIMC through the “donate” page on our website. Thank you!
