Community Practice with Chris Benitez

July 12 @ 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm

AIMC is pleased to welcome Chris Benitez to lead Meditation and offer a dharma talk.

Chris is in long-term recovery from addiction, and began meditating in late 2012. He was initially introduced to the Dharma by “Hardcore Zen,” a book by Soto zen monk, Brad Warner. He remembers being drawn in by all of the flashy punk rock and anarchy references on the cover, and deciding to give it a read. The book, written by a punk rock bassist who unintentionally became a zen monk contained one chapter about punk rock, and the rest was a hardcore crash course on buddhist philosophy. Chris has been sitting every day since. Since then Chris has sat with Tibetan, Zen, and Theravadan teachers. He has been facilitating peer led dharma study groups and buddhist recovery groups since 2014. This March he completed Facilitator training with Against the Stream Buddhist Meditation Society in Los Angeles. He is very interested in the work of Generation X Buddhist Teachers like Noah Levine, Vinny Ferraro, and JoAnna Hardy, and their ability to reach people (like himself) that may not otherwise have been exposed to the dharma.

Please arrive a few minutes early to get settled before the bell rings at 6:30 p.m. Chairs and cushions are available.
